Hakodate  函館

Hakodate is a port city with strong European style. Redbrick warehouses lines up along the waterfront. Many of the waterfront warehouses have been restored and transformed into restaurants and shopping centres. The entire city becomes illuminated at night and the panoramic view is breathtaking!

Morning Market (Asaichi):
Begin the day with a seafood breakfast in one of the cozy stall at the morning market in Hakodate.

Redbrick Warehouses:
Many of these are tourist spots serving shopping and dining options.

Streetcar:
The Hakodate streetcar has been operating since 1913 and still serve as a convenient means of transportation. Fare ranges from ¥200 to ¥250. When you get on the streetcar at its rear entrance, you have to take a slip from the machine. When you alight, put the slip into the fare box together with your fare.

Slopes:
Many of these streets on the sloping contours at the foot of Mt Hakodate provides nice view of the sea.

Goryokaku  五稜郭:
This pentagon-shaped park used to be a fort which was built to defend Hokkaido from northern threats. Now the Goryokaku Park has become a special historial monument where 1600 cherry trees bloom all at once during spring. The Goryokaku Tower provides a panoramic view of the Park.

Night view from Mt Hakodate:
Take a 3-min ride on the roperail up to the peak of Mt Hakodate to see the manificant night view. The night view from the top of Mt Hakodate is one of the the world's most beautiful night views.
