Sapporo  札幌

Sapporo is the largest, urbanised city in Hokkaido and the 5th largest city in Japan. It is easy to move around on foot in Sapporo, thanks to its grid urban plan.

TV Tower 電視塔:
This is the landmark of Sapporo where you can capture panoramic views of the city. Note the addresses in Sapporo take the TV Tower as the index.

Odori Park 大通公園:
This beautifully landscaped and decorated park is the best location in Sapporo for major events in all seasons.

Odori Park at night:
Sapporo's famous snow festival is held here annually in February. Large snow sculptures line up the 1.5km long park. Every year, 2 million visitors flew in to participate in this event.

Former Hokkaido Government Building 
北海道舊廳舊本廳舍:
Built in 1888, the building was used as a base for the administration of Hokkaido's development. The structure, rebuilt in 1911 after being devastated by fire, is designated as an important cultural property.

 

Clock Tower 時計台:
The Clock Tower is the symbol of the history and culture of Hokkaido's development. Built in 1878, the structure is a national important cultural asset of Hokkaido.

Ramen Alley 拉麵橫丁:
This entire lane houses approximately 16 Ramen restaurants in Susukino.

Susukino 狸小路:
This is the shopping district in Sapporo. 

Sapporo Station:
Being the heart of the transportation system, the train station is aesthetically built and conveniently link up to underground shopping linkways. 

Hitsujigaoka Oversevatory Hill 羊ヶ丘展望台:
Away from the busy city in the outskirt, this pasture is flocked with sheeps... but you can't see any of them in the photo cos they are asleep in their huts.

Hitsujigaoka Oversevatory Hill 羊ヶ丘展望台:
Sapporo Dome stands in the backdrop of the statue of Dr William S. Clark. Soccer matches of the World Cup 2002 were held at the Sapporo Dome.  

Otaru  小樽

Otaru is a small port city 30 minutes away on train from Sapporo. There isn't much attractions except for the Otaru canal and its delicate and exquisite glassware. Taking a stroll along the streets, you may find glassware masters producing glass handicrafts and be amazed by their quick and delicate skills.

Otaru Canal:
The canal is the landmark of Otaru and a classic location for photo taking. The warehouses at the side are now converted into restaurants and shops.

Be it day or night, the canal retains it beauty. Snow-capped roofs would have added beauty to the picture. It's a pity that the snow has melted by the time this photo was taken in April.

Museum:
This museum displays exquisite musical boxes. There are many other museums in Otaru that displays glass artworks.
